Sports Premium
The Government is providing funding of £320 million per annum (2023-24), to provide new and substantial school sport funding for primary years. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport.
We will be spending on improving the quality if sport and PE for all of our primary students. Our school will receive £16,000 plus an extra £10 per primary pupil each year. The funding can only be spent on provision of high-quality PE throughout curricular and extra-curricular activity.
At West Lea School we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our students. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our students.
The Sports Premium is designed to help our primary department to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities we offer our pupils. We endeavour to deliver the highest standard PE lessons and will use this fund to do many things, including:
- Hire qualified PE specialists to work alongside and upskill teachers when teaching PE.
- Pay for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
- Run sport competitions and increasing participation in the school games
- Buy quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
- Provide places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits
- Improve the quality of PE and school sport delivery
