Spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development
Schools play an important role in enabling the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of their pupils, which includes actively teaching and upholding fundamental British values.
We promote SMSC development in many ways, including:
- Establishing a strong, values-based culture
- Promoting effective relationships and behaviours throughout the school
- Weaving SMSC development into the taught curriculum and extracurricular activity programme
- Through an active programme of school events e.g. assemblies, awareness days, Freshers Week and “Drop Days”
Drop Days are when learners don’t follow their typical timetable and, instead, focus on a curriculum area or take part in cultural activities. These ever-popular events include visits by local arts and theatre companies.
